Character Bio: In 1938, famed stage actress Julia Lambert is the toast of London, at her peak both physically and professionally. But as played by the wickedly good Bening, Julia’s immense talent is matched only by her raging insecurities. Somehow, her career, as well as her marriage to handsome impresario Michael Gosselyn (Jeremy Irons), has become stale and unfulfilling. What she longs for is some novelty, excitement, sparks. What she gets is, well, unexpected. Let’s just say, revenge is sweet.
