Duration: 13 years
Ages: 40 and 35
Previous pairings: None (in case you haven’t noticed, they’ve been dating for 13 years)
Love story: Before he became Hollywood’s favorite bumbling leading man and she Estée Lauder’s supermodel spokeswoman, Grant took a part in the 1987 movie “Rowing With the Wind” because he had a secret crush on Hurley, who’d already been cast. The pair have weathered their share of trials, the hardest of which was arguably Grant‘s 1995 arrest for soliciting L.A. prostitute Divine Brown. Miraculously, the pair survived, as did Grant‘s career.
What went wrong?: It’s not because Grant was inadequate in bed, as Hurley quickly defended after Jane Magazine quoted otherwise (the magazine later retracted that story). Oddly, they called their May split “temporary,” leading some to believe that it was a publicity stunt to appease Grant‘s ailing mother. But the consensus seems to be that the two may not have seen eye to eye on whether or not to get married, whether or not to have children. And their busy schedules (besides her Estée Lauder campaign, she just starred in “Bedazzled“; he’s just wrapped “Bridget Jones’ Diary“) certainly didn’t help things.
Post-split romance: While her friendship with Grant remains intact, Hurley is back on the dating scene, and told Hollywood.com at the “Bedazzled” premiere in October she was “looking for a boyfriend.”
What they’ve said: Said Hurley to InStyle: “I’ll always love Hugh, but I have faced the fact that perhaps we’re not meant to live happily ever after with each other after all.” You may be right, Liz, but then again there are those persistent rumors of reconciliation. Stay tuned, this flame may not be squelched after all…
