Downey won’t return to “Ally” for sweeps

Widespread rumors that producers of Ally McBeal would bring Robert Downey Jr. back to the show during the May sweeps were denied Wednesday by spokespersons for the actor and the show itself. Downey‘s publicist, Alan Nierab, told TV Guide Online:

“There are no plans for him to return at this point.” An unnamed spokesperson for Ally confirmed, “While the show is fond of him and has never ruled out his returning, there are no plans to have him return in May or any other time this season.”

Downey, who played the title character’s love interest last year, was written out of the show at the end of the season following his latest drug-related legal problems. He is due to be replaced this month by singer Jon Bon Jovi.
