The Affair of the Necklace
The Players: Hilary Swank, Christopher Walken, Jonathan Pryce, Joely Richardson, Adrien Brody; directed by Charles Shyer
The Skinny: This one, based on a true story, is set in 18th-century France right before the French Revolution. Swank plays an aristocrat stripped of her royal name who becomes obsessed with stealing a precious necklace to avenge her family’s fall from favor. However, she falls in love along the way and loses her concentration.
The Bottom Line: This will be the first juicy role we’ve seen Swank in since she won her Oscar for her tense performance in Boys Don’t Cry–and it’s a period and costume piece to boot. That’s always a plus come award season.
Opens: Nov. 30
