How hard is it to open a trendy new boutique that attracts Hollywood’s hottest celebs and has the trendiest new styles? No problem at all-at least when you’re related to Mrs. John Travolta. Just ask Sky Reynolds, the owner of Skyla and cousin to Sky High actress Kelly Preston.
Reynolds recently opened her Westwood store and already has attracted an enviable celebrity clientelle such as Erika Christensen, Bijou Phillips, Keisha Whitaker and of course Kelly, who were all on hand for the official grand opening.
Stylishly clad in U.K. designer Jenny Packham paired with Jimmy Choo heels and a Mary Rambin C.L.I.C.K. bag, Preston raved about the party and the funky, but affordable boutique. “My cousin Sky has opened a store, and I wanted to help her out,” Kelly told Hollywood.com. “She opened it a couple of months ago and the clothes have been flying off the shelves, because there is nothing like this is Westwood. She’s got great taste…” She’s got her finger on what’s really cool. [She has] the greatest jeans. She’s got 12 different kinds of jeans.” Her favorite hip-hugging brands at Skyla include Paige Denim, Citizens of Humanity, and Seven For All Man Kind.
“It’s been going amazingly well,” enthused Reynolds, who said she couldn’t be happier with the store’s success, and gave some of the credit to her cuz. “I’m so excited. Kelly has been so supportive. She loves to shop here. She brings all her friends and it’s been an amazing success.”
The lavish party wasn’t just all about the stylish new fashions however. “Kelly Preston is one of my best friends,” said Keisha Whitaker, who met Preston at Travolta‘s 43rd birthday bash while he was making the film Phenomenon with Forest Whitaker, Keisha’s husband. “We met at the party and we were dancing and we’re like ‘You’re my new best friend!’ and from that moment on she’s been one of my best friends in the whole world.” Thus Keisha was pleased to help create awareness for the evening’s cause, the Citizens Commission on Human Rights which she said “basically makes sure that schools and the state can’t force parents to medicate their children…For me as a parent it’s very important to be able to make your own decisions about your children.”
“I’m a big supporter [of CCHR] and I’m here to show some love for some friends,” said Erika Christensen who looked adorable in white Seven jeans with rhinestone pockets was also happy to be there for the cause. The actress hoped to wear a little less at the beach this summer in hopes of catching some bronzing rays. “I’m very much working on this tan. I’m one of the whitest girls around,” she laughed.
Hollywood party girl Bijou Phillips, in a Carolina Kay dress and toting a Mary Rambin C.L.I.C.K bag, was having such a great time she could hardly be pulled away from the music of DJ Samantha Ronson. Bijou danced and hung out with her steady guy, That 70s Show‘s Danny Masterson, while other partygoers got down to the beats and enjoyed 10 Cane rum mojitos and daquiris-The world’s first-ever luxury rum, 10 Cane is made with pure Trinidadian cane juice, with the individual canes double distilled in pot stills that are painstakingly transported to a Trinidadian distillery from France, where the rum is mellowed in French oak barrels for a smoother taste.
It’s clear that Kelly really must adore her cousin and the clothing at Skyla, because she can’t just drive in from Malibu or Bel-Air to check out the shop. The Travoltas live primarily in Florida to give their family a “normal” life, and Kelly revealed that her clan will be doing some traveling soon, with her husband in the cockpit. “At the end of the year we’re planning on going around the world again. Johnny will be flying us. We’re looking forward to doing that with the kids…He’s a pilot of a 707, and it’s an extraordinary way to fly.” And’s that’s coming from a gal who took to the skies as a superhero for her new flick, Sky High.
Whitaker confided to Hollywood.com that she’s always ready whenever Kelly‘s hubby says “Come Fly With Me.” “We’ve actually had the pleasure of going on a little plane that John has. It’s a two- seater and it’s at their home in Florida. He flew us one at a time. Me and the kids around their property. It’s pretty amazing to say that you’ve been flown by John Travolta.”
