[IMG:L]A Raisin in the Sun — 8/7c on ABC
For music projects it might be “Diddy” or any of many slight variations thereof, but when it comes to acting, Sean Combs is just Sean Combs.
Combs the actor steps away from his career as a music mogul/artist for tonight to star in and co-produce ABC’s Raisin in the Sun.
And judging his small sample size, thespian Combs has some potential and could be the next in a long line of rapper-actor crossovers.
Most notably, Combs was very convincing and controlled as a doomed prisoner in 2001’s Monster’s Ball, in which he was also credited as plain old “Sean Combs.”
Combs co-stars alongside Phylicia Rashad (The Cosby Show), Tony Award winner Audra McDonald and Sanaa Lathan (Something New) in Raisin, the TV adaptation of Lorraine Hansberry’s revered 1959 play about a black family’s struggles in 1950s Chicago.
It marks the directorial debut for Kenny Leon, who helmed the Broadway revival.
