Social media accounts for HBO shows hacked

Network bosses at HBO have suffered another hack attack after the official social media accounts for shows like Game Of Thrones and Veep were taken over by cyber criminals.
Computer experts from a group called OurMine gained access to the series’ Twitter and Facebook pages late on Wednesday (16Aug17) and used the opportunity to alert HBO officials to their lax security measures.
“Hi, OurMine are here, we are just testing your security, HBO team please contact us to upgrade the security,” the post read.
The hackers also urged followers to spread the news of the incident online, adding, “let’s make #HBOHacked trending!”
The unauthorised posts, which also appeared on the social media profiles for the network’s other programmes Last Week Tonight, Silicon Valley, and Ballers, were quickly spotted by HBO representatives, who managed to regain control of the various accounts and delete the hackers’ messages.
Channel bosses have since launched an investigation into the incident, which comes as HBO chiefs continue to deal with the aftermath of a more serious security breach in late July (17), when another group of hackers stole a ton of data from the network’s servers.
Those cyber criminals have been sharing scripts and footage from unaired episodes of HBO’s hit shows ever since, demanding a ransom to put a stop to the illegal leaks, which network officials have chosen to ignore.
