Unlike the reveal of a famous superhero suit design or a mysterious sci-fi setting, the first image from a new Bourne movie can only be so exciting. The franchise has always aimed for naturalism—Matt Damon’s Jason Bourne always looked a lot like…Matt Damon—and the latest iteration, with Jeremy Renner filling Damon’s shoes as similar super soldier Aaron Cross, follows suit.
If you caught Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, then this first snapshot from The Bourney Legacy may not blow you away. Cross looks a lot like Renner, who didn’t stray too far from his natural look in Ghost Protocol. The important part is the man can kick a butt. He can kick lots of butts. And it’s safe to assume that in this spin-off of the highly successful spy franchise, he will continue utilizing his skills for butt kicking.
The Bourne Legacy is currently filming in Thailand under the direction of Tony Gilroy (writer of the original trilogy and director of Michael Clayton and Duplicity) for an August 3, 2012 release.
