Celebrity Fashion Spotlight: Gwen Stefani Births Eco Basics Line

Gwen Stefani has come a long way since her first foray into fashion and the logo-emblazoned handbags and Rasta-inspired L.A.M.B collection that came with it. But the platinum-haired No Doubt frontwoman turned designer has proved herself on the runway over the years, becoming one of the few celebrity designers who evoke critical praise and turn a profit.

For her latest collaboration, Stefani teamed up with denim guru Michael Glasser, the man who weaved jeans into gold through the brands 7 For All Mankind, Citizens of Humanity, and Rich and Skinny. But instead of creating another ubiquitous $200 pair of five-pocket jean, Stefani is ditching denim altogether to create a line of eco-friendly, edgy basics called Design With Purpose.

The 18-piece collection features a combination of model off-duty with Gwen’s rocker sensibility in a looser silhouette. Think cropped, slouchy trousers instead of skinny jeans made with the leather-like material Tencel — a sustainable and biodegradable fabric. Looking back at her past L.A.M.B collections, DWP expands upon some of Gwen’s favorite staples like tomboyish jumpsuits, sexy camis and plenty of bold prints with nary a houndstooth pattern in sight!

The entire line of moto vests, cool blouses, draped pants, sleek dresses and crop tops are set to wholesale for between $80 and $130 for Spring 2014, which is a mere fraction of her previous collections. With a third baby on the way and ongoing collaborations being added to the Gwen-pire, there’s no telling when the next L.A.M.B collection will come out. If you can’t wait til spring, you can always get your Gwen fashion fix with her new nail polish line for OPI and bundle up with her Burton Girls line.
