It all started with cancer. Rob McElhenney thought up the idea to write and film a sketch about a man who, in hopes of only borrowing a cup of sugar from a friend, gets roped into the latter's uncomfortable admission that he is dying of cancer. This simple, darkly comic premise evolved into It's Always Sunny in Phildelphia — and made for the plot of the series' fourth episode back in 2005. But of course, not even the most prime piece of milk steak can last forever: Glenn Howerton, who plays Dennis on and co-produces the FX comedy series, has announced that It's Always Sunny will call it quits after Season 10.

Speaking to Rolling Stone, Howerton explains that there are likely only two seasons left for the beloved Paddy's Pub (Season 9 is set to begin in September). "There's a certain point where you wear out your welcome and we don’t want to do that. We want to leave them wanting more," Howerton says. "We spend a lot of time trying to find new lines to cross. We're not trying to offend people or gross them out, but we're looking to surprise them. I think we’re proud of what we've done so far, so it's time to stop. I'm sure there are already a few people who are like 'Jesus Christ is that show still on? Go away.'"

So what will become of our favorite Philadelphians? The big screen. Howerton is headlining College Humor's first original feature, Coffee Town, Charlie Day just stole the show in Pacific Rim, Kaitlin Olson played a small but memorable role in the comedic hit The Heat, and Danny DeVito has his Twins sequel in the works. As for ol' Mac... well... he'll have plenty of time to work on his karate.
