EW.com is reporting that although the rumors have begun – and will continue – to fly, Simon Cowell’s American Idol replacement won’t be named until after the season 9 finale.
The Idol judge announced in January that the ninth season would be his last, setting off rampant speculation about his successor, especially as the May 26 finale quickly approaches.
But an Idol source has nipped the rumor mill in the bud, most likely so as not to have any such announcements steal the show’s thunder as its ninth season winds down.

Everyone from Howard Stern to Jamie Foxx has been mentioned as a potential replacement for Cowell, who will focus on bringing his hit British show The X Factor to America.
