One night after Entourage aired the fifth episode of its fifth season, HBO has announced that there will be at least one more season.
Production on season six will begin in early 2009, with the premiere slated for summer 2009. (The current season was also originally supposed to air during summer, but the writers’ strike pushed it back to fall.)
“We’re thrilled to be back for another season,” said creator Doug Ellin. “HBO has been amazing in allowing the show to grow and mature. I never imagined when we started that we would make it to six seasons.”
Executive producers Mark Wahlberg (whose life the show is loosely based on) and Stephen Levinson, meanwhile, had this to say: “We just spoke to the real Johnny Drama, and he is overjoyed by this pick-up. Most of all, we love being part of the HBO family.”
The Emmy-winning series has been one of HBO’s few bright spots–as far as ratings are concerned–since The Sopranos went off the air in 2007.
