For a beloved show, Glee sure is pissing off a lot of people. Even the easy-going Foo Fighters front man, Dave Grohl, is getting a little riled up over the campy show. For some reason, Grohl was talking about Glee at the South by Southwest Festival premiere of the new Foo Fighters documentary instead of just talking about oh, I don’t know, the million other awesome things that are happening at the Austin festival. He’s aligning himself firmly against Glee and Ryan Murphy, stating “It’s every band’s right, you shouldn’t have to do fucking Glee. And then the guy who created Glee is so offended that we’re not, like, begging to be on his fucking show… fuck that guy for thinking anybody and everybody should want to do Glee.”
Okay, well, I get it. Ryan Murphy is incredibly pompous and entitled when it comes to his precious little TV baby and he does tend to lash out at folks who aren’t scrambling to be a part of it. I get that and it pisses me off too. The problem here is that Grohl’s getting down in the muck with Murphy when he should just be the bigger person. He’s right, but it doesn’t help to go around yelling “fuck” at the man behind one of the most successful shows out there. Grohl added, “The Glee guy, what a fucking jerk…And it’s just like, Dude, maybe not everyone loves Glee. Me included.” It does not surprise me one bit that the musician is not a Glee fan; what does surprise me is that he’s actually given it a chance before he decided he didn’t like it. Kudos, Dave. The problem is that while I like Glee and I still agree with Grohl, he’s just stoking the bitchy fire that Murphy has already unleashed on other acts who didn’t want to do his show like Slash and Kings of Leon. Just stay out of it and keep being awesome, no one wins with they argue with Murphy; he just throws in a dig at you on the next episode of the singing teen extravaganza.
While we won’t be seeing Rachel and Finn crooning “Monkey Wrench” anytime soon, apparently we will be treated to some directing a la Mr. Schue. Matthew Morrison is apparently trying to “be noticed and seen” as much as he can until he turns 40 (but he’s got like seven years until then, so expect a lot more mugging for the camera) and part of that is taking a break from recording his solo album — wait, what? — and directing a few episodes of Glee for season three. Well, as long as he doesn’t take his love of performing awful rap songs and parlay that into his directing skills we’ll probably be alright. Plus, Glee’s so out of control at this point that putting a singer and actor behind the lens can’t be that much of a risk, really.
