Ever since Regis Philbin stepped down from his post on Live! with Regis and Kelly back in November, America has been wondering who will fill the legend’s shoes. Well, after 10 months of anticipation/speculation and watching Kelly Ripa hold her own alone on LIVE! with KELLY, Ripa announced Tuesday that Michael Strahan will be stepping in as her sidekick, wing man, awesome co-host.
“Now it’s time for a new era of our show to begin,” Kelly said. “It gives me great pleasure to introduce the newest member of our Live! family, Michael Strahan.” And the balloons and confetti fell!
Some people may wonder why Ripa would pick Strahan, who is a former NFL star (he was a Defensive End for the New York Giants) — but besides taking the football field, Stahan has also tackled the television screen. He is currently the host of Fox NFL Sunday, and has made several guest appearances on LIVE! with KELLY. Strahan also had a starring role on the sitcom, Brothers, back in 2009.
After 59 guest co-hosts, Ripa has finally found her man! “We are actually going to last unlike The Bachelor couples,” Ripa joked on Good Morning America prior to making the announcement.
