With big lump in throat, here it is: ER‘s swan song. What was supposed to have been three weeks ago with the return of George Clooney‘s Dr. Doug Ross has now stretched into tonight’s two-hour goodbye to 15 seasons, 120 Emmy nominations and Dr. Clooney’s basketball jersey still hanging on the wall of the ER set. They lasted longer than Hope. They managed to supply at least one handsome M.D. at all times — first Clooney, then Goran Visnjic and now John Stamos, who tonight, as Dr. Tony Gates, must save a teen’s life near-destroyed by alcohol poisoning via a drinking game with his buddies. Noah Wyle, still milking his longest-running alumni return as Dr. John Carter, celebrates the grand opening of his new medical facility for Chicago’s underprivileged whilst working with an intern to rescue a mother in labor with twins. Nurse Sam Taggart (Linda Cardellini) is set to receive a very birthday gift, plus Alexis Bledel (famed Gilmore Girl), Ernest Borgnine and “other” ER ghosts are set to guest-star. Can we just say: Where in the world has Eriq LaSalle been? Adieu, ER. Thanks for saving us for all these 15 years.
