New mum Zooey Deschanel’s hit show New Girl is to return to TV for one final season.
The sitcom has been picked up for a seventh season by network bosses at Fox, according to TV Guide, surprising executive producers Dave Finkel and Brett Baer, who created a season six finale that could double as a series finale in case the TV executives didn’t offer them more episodes.
“We really wanted to make sure that we delivered an ending that could work in both directions,” Finkel told TVGuide.com. “If it was the series finale, that it answered a lot of questions, and then if it was just the season finale, there would be space to grow.”
The long-running comedy also features Hannah Simone, Jake Johnson, Lamorne Morris, and Max Greenfield.
Megan Fox stepped in to replace the show’s leading lady Deschanel last year (16), after she fell pregnant with her second child.
Zooey and her partner Jacob Pechenik welcomed a baby boy, named Charlie Wolf Pechenik, earlier this month (May17).
