Saturday: ‘Saturday Night Live’

Saturday Night Live has delivered the goods consistently since it returned from the writers strike three weeks ago, and, much to Lorne Michaels’ delight, ratings are up considerably from pre-strike numbers.

Tonight’s show, likewise, shan’t be a letdown.

Recent Academy Award snubee Amy Adams (Enchanted) hosts with musical guest Vampire Weekend, picking up right where the previous two post-strike shows left off: Tina Fey brilliantly and fittingly hosted SNL’s first show back, with Carrie Underwood doing the singing; Juno’s Ellen Page was solid if unspectacular in hosting duties last week, accompanied by alt-country gods Wilco.

If ever there were a natural-born SNL host, it is Adams. The actress has no trouble with comedy (or any other genre), and as we saw on the otherwise snoozeworthy Oscars telecast, she appears to be at her best when performing in front of millions of people.

Lightning-fast rising indie band Vampire Weekend–an odd fit because they’re still relatively unknown, but a perfect fit because this is the type of appearance to change that (and they’re based in New York)–reportedly canceled a slew of concert dates in order to play SNL.
