Guy Ritchie’s directing again — but thank God it’s more Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels than Swept Away. (Which means, thank God, Madonna‘s not in it.) It’s a stylish gangsta flick that boasts Ritchie’s keenness for odd nicknames — like One-Two and Mumbles, Scottish mobsters (Gerard Butler, Idris Elba) entangled in the labyrinthe of a bigger London mob-fest led by Tom Wilkinson. Thandie Newton gets sexed by Butler in the briefest of romp scenes, there’s a man dubbed “Handsome” not played by Jason Statham, and the crimelord’s drugged-out pop-star kin might be dead — but wait, he’s got the painting that everyone’s looking for! Ritchie can’t help but stuffing the heck out of a two-hour flick — and we’re addicted.
