Well, it’s technically a Bourne movie. It’s being written by the guy (Tony Gilroy) who wrote the first three movies and he gets to direct this one too, but it won’t feature the character Jason Bourne at all. Which also means no Matt Damon. So, um, yay?
Gilroy claims this isn’t “a reboot or a recast or a prequel” but rather a continuation into the world of Bourne where the first three movies act as a “trigger” for this fourth film. And while the film is titled The Bourne Legacy, it won’t share any similarities with the Robert Ludlum novel of the same name. Fun fact: it wasn’t even written by Ludlum. It was published three years after he died! He’s like the Tupac of mystery novels.
I guess as long as it brings the action and shaky cam this can potentially be a good thing, right? They are still going to need a charismatic actor like Damon if they really want to keep it as exciting as the first three Bourne films though.
Let’s try to think of the best replacement, shall we? It’ll have to be someone who can excite the audience. Someone who can handle the action and adventure. They’ll have to be someone who can connect with Middle America so they can relate but still be different enough to be interesting. With that in mind, our only choice is:
Matt Damon.
Shit, we might be in trouble.
