If you weren’t under a rock this past February, then you noticed when Marvel’s Deadpool came rolling through the theaters snatching up $760.3 million dollars along the way. Not only did Hollywood hottie Ryan Reynolds prove that he can slay as a superhero when given the right role, the raunchy story-line, snarky anti-hero and fun action made Deadpool one of the best superhero films of the past decade. Now that Deadpool is officially on Blue-Ray and DVD with deleted scenes, gag reels, galleries and commentary galore, we got to thinking about when would be seeing more of of our bae in black and red.
Back in February, The Hollywood Reporter announced that 20th Century Fox was already super eager about getting a sequel green lit. It looks like Deadpool 2 might be in theaters as early as January of 2018. Heroic Hollywood has reported that Ryan Reynolds has inked his deal to return in the titular role, and that production on the film will begin later this fall. So what else do we know about Deadpool 2?
The Story

Now that we all know Deadpool’s aka Wade Wilson‘s origin story, the sequel’s narrative has infinite possibilities. In the comics, Deadpool has protected the earth from former Presidents turned-zombies, aliens, and a ton of other adventures. Since it’s so early, we obviously don’t know a lot about what’s coming, but we do know that Cable will be involved.
In the post-credits for Deadpool, the “Merc with a Mouth” gave us just a nugget of information. He said,
“Oh! I can tell you one thing, and it’s a bit of a secret. The sequel? We’re gonna have Cable. Amazing character. Bionic arm, time travel! We have no idea who we’re going to cast yet, but it could be anyone. Just need a big guy with a flat top. Mel Gibson, Dolph Lundgren, Kiera Knightly? She’s got range – who knows? Big secret, shhh. Oh, and don’t leave your garbage all lying around. It’s a total dick move. Go! Chica-chica!”
So, who the hell is Cable?

Cable has consistently been linked to Deadpool in the comics. Cable’s government name is Nathan Summers and he is the son of Cyclops and Madelyne Pryor (the clone of Jean Grey). As a baby he was infected by a techno-organic virus, and then sent to the distant future in order to be properly cared for. (We know this is a lot). Cable also has telekinetic and telepathic abilities. It looks like actors Stephen Lang and Jon Hamm might be in the running for the role.
What about Vanessa?

At the end of Deadpool, Vanessa and Wade were as steamy as ever. Now that their romance is locked down, we can assume that Vanessa will be back. Hopefully this time, we’ll get to see her transformation into the shape-shifting mutant, Copycat.
Things are bound to be bigger and better.

Deadpool had a budget of $58 million dollars, which is actually pennies when compared to the budget of Captain America: Civil War which stands at $250 million. We can assume that Fox might be willing to let the budget expand a bit considering how well Deadpool did in the box office. However, one of the film’s writers Paul Wernick said we shouldn’t expect a significant jump. After all, sometimes less is more. However, that doesn’t meant that the dialogue won’t be even more iconic.
More connections to the X-Men Universe?

Since the budget will probably stay fairly modest, there probably won’t be many more X-Men joining Deadpool and Cable. However, we expect that there will still to be some major connections. Perhaps we’ll get to see even more of Negasonic Teenage Warhead; she was pretty freaking kick ass after all. Actress Brianna Hildebrand said she’d be totally down to reprise the role. And we think Deadpool would do well with a protegee.
Until we know more about the sequel, be sure to check out Deadpool which is now on Blu-Ray & DVD.
