The CW Upfront is a different animal from the other network presentations. It’s the fun, younger sibling, complete with screaming teens hoping to catch a glimpse of Paul Wesley and Ian Somerhalder outside and a 10-minute Flo Rida concert inside.
Beauty and the Beast
Kristin Kreuk of Smallville fame returns to the CW to fill in Secret Circle’s post-Vampire Diaries timeslot, and it’s clear the folks at CW know their strengths. The series has a twinge of parent network CBS’ favorite TV staple: The crime procedural. Multiply that by the forbidden supernatural romance of Vampire Diaries and add a romantic lead who’s one part watered down Ian Somerhalder, one part Paul Wesley, and a dash of Lou Ferrigno’s Hulk when he transforms into “The Beast”: You’ve got yourself a series.
Emily Owens, M.D.
With this dramedy, the CW steps a little further into the medical drama territory that’s become such a standby for other networks. Emily is a medical intern (shocker) who’s quickly finding that adulthood is just high school all over again. It promises to be a sweet series with an a typical lead who skews a little older than most CW heroines. The risk is that the series may be a little too vanilla for the average CW viewer.
Stay tuned for trailers from midseason series like The Carrie Diaries and TVD star Matt Davis’ creepy new drama Cult! In the meantime, enjoy these newly released stills from both hot new shows.
