NCIS: Los Angeles paid tribute to late star Miguel Ferrer as his character was written out of Sunday night’s (05Feb17) show.

The 61-year-old actor, also known for his roles in Robocop and Twin Peaks, lost his battle with throat cancer on 19 January (17). He played Owen Granger in the hit crime show, with producers writing his death into the series, as his character was stabbed during a mole hunt plot. He was taken to the hospital but when his friend and colleague Hetty (played by Linda Hunt) arrived to check on him, he wasn’t there.

“I’m afraid he’s gone,” a nurse told Hetty. “One minute he was here, and the next minute he wasn’t…. He pulled out his IV and walked out.”

Hetty then discovered a note from Granger, which read: “I have some unfinished business to take care of. I’m sure you’ll think of something…You always do.”

The episode concluded with Ferrer’s cover of Bob Dylan tune Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door. The late actor, whose mother was singer Rosemary Clooney, the aunt of George Clooney, performed the classic track with his blues rock band, The Jenerators.
