Dwight Schrute’s ‘The Farm’ is No More Says Rainn Wilson

The Farm, Rainn WilsonBut what, pray tell, is going to happen to the beets? It looks like NBC does not want Dwight Schrute (Rainn Wilson) tending farm, at least on their network. The peacock network has decided to pass on The Office spin-off/Wilson-starring vehicle after a pilot was shot.

The show centered on Wilson’s Schrute character getting back to his familial roots as a beet farmer who also runs a bed and breakfast. Originally shot as a backdoor pilot (meaning, a pilot filmed as a standalone viable for broadcast even if it isn’t picked up as a series), The Farm was attached to air within The Office‘s current season. However, NBC decided before the episode aired that it would not move forward on the project, according to Wilson’s tweet that broke the news.

The news comes as a shock to fans of the top-rated comedy from whence Wilson came, since it can be argued that Wilson’s portrayal of Dwight Schrute was one of the consistently funny parts of the long-running series. But it seems like the news hasn’t gotten Wilson down, who was particularly positive when delivering his announcement on Twitter.
