This train doesn’t stop here; in fact, it goes on for at least another 10 stops. That’s right, AMC’s westward expansion drama surrounding the building of the Union Pacific Railroad, Hell On Wheels has been picked up for a third season, Hollywood.com has confirmed with the network.
The western epic has faced several challenges in the ratings, which were down slightly from the first season, but overall remained quite strong given the challenges. Hell On Wheels wrapped up its second season on October 7, with an average of 2.4 million viewers—a solid ratings average for the series overall.
And while that was down from the average of 3 million viewers during the first season, this time the show did not have hugely-popular The Walking Dead as a lead-in, and was doubly impacted by the fact that Dish Network customers still lack AMC programming due to the dispute between the two companies.
The show’s second season primarily followed Anson Mount, Common and Colm Meaney as they push the boundaries of the great frontier, and has received positive reviews and accolades for its stunning visual accomplishments—true to the AMC way of doing television—to say nothing of how truly badass its three leading men are on the acting front.
