Add one more to list of Veronica Mars stars finding small screen success since the cult-hit about a teen sleuth ran aground. The latest to join the successful set is Ryan Hansen (Party Down), who has snagged the lead in Fox’s latest pilot offering El Jefe, according to TVLine. The series will follow a wealthy 30-something man-child who’s sent packing from Mommy and Daddy’s house and then forced to take shelter with his cleaning woman’s family when he runs out of options. Considering Hansen has been playing a pitch-perfect man-child since his days on VM, he’ll fit into this role fairly easily.
While Veronica Mars never managed to pull in the numbers, failing to eke out anything about an average of 2.5 million viewers, die-hard fans remain dedicated. (Look up the phrase “Veronica Mars Movie” sometime. The results are overwhelming.) With such avid fans, even five years after the series’ last episode aired, it’s no wonder that casting familiar faces from the Veronica Mars universe is a bit of a trend in the television universe.
Before Hansen, series alumni like Max Greenfield nabbed his position on Fox’s hit series New Girl as the lovable, hapless player Schmidt. Veronica herself, Kristen Bell, stars in the brand-new Showtime series, House of Lies, and her former on-screen flame, Jason Dohring has enjoyed a scandalous role on the CW’s Ringer. The face of Veronica’s romantic rival, Julie Gonzalo, will lend her pretty face to TNT’s Dallas reboot this summer, school chum Krysten Ritter is headining ABC’s Don’t Trust the B—- in Apartment 23, and to cap off the list, the former thorn in Bell’s side, Ken Marino, enjoys an uncomfortable role on Adult Swim’s Childrens Hospital.
