As more details and news of the unthinkable tragedy that has unfolded in Boston continues to come in — as of 5 PM ET, at least 2 people have been confirmed dead as a result of the bombs that went off at the Boston Marathon — here is some information we can share with you in terms of ways you can stay safe and help those affected.
– The Massachusettes and Rhode Island American Red Cross have listed upcoming blood drives, as well as their phone number 1-800-RED – CROSS. The Boston Blood Donation Center is located at 74 Tremont St, Boston, MA 02116.
– If you have information on a Boston Marathon runner, or if you are looking for a person who participated in today’s race, you can visit Google Person Finder. Additionally, since cell phone service has been suspended in Boston, you can use the runner check-in database on the official Boston Marathon website.
– You can also call two hotlines that have been set up. For inquiries about individuals, you can call 1-617-635-4500. For any useful information you may have in the wake of today’s events, call 1-800-494-TIPS.
– If you are in Boston from out of town for the Marathon and need a place to stay, fill out this form to find a host.
– Stay safe. The official Twitter page for the Boston Police Department are “asking people not to congregate in large crowds.”
