Character Bio: Without hardly ever raising his voice, Cheadle exquisitely hands us the real-life unsung hero Paul Rusesabagina, a mild-mannered Hutu hotel manager in Rwanda who saved over 1,000 Tutsi and moderate Hutu refugees during the country’s genocide that claimed nearly a million lives in 1994. Paul has a quiet, gentle way of staving off corrupt generals and murderous mobs, using his wits, charm–and a well-timed bribe here and there–all while protecting the ones he loved most, as well as those lucky few he was able to keep from harm.
