DO IT TODAY: ‘Tyson’

Tyson
(Friday, Apr. 24, 2009)

The infamous rape incident aside, Mike Tyson is amazing. This documentary, directed by long-time M.T. pal James Toback, is 90 minutes of that very Amazing. He’s never been one to shy away from telling us how he “feels” — be it anger by way of physical expression (take that, Evander Holyfield‘s ear!) or the admirable candor he displays here, comfortably discussing said rape sitch, plus, his turbulent childhood, his green days of fighting, his brief marriage to Robin Givens and, of course, the pre- and post-effects of becoming the youngest boxer ever to win the heavyweight championship. The convicted ear biter sheds a few tears, slurs most of his words and without fail, his tattooed mug appears oblivious to all crass comments spilling out of his very own mouth (lest we forget those unforgettable I’ll-boff-you comments he gave a reporter at a Lennox Lewis press conference — YouTube it).
