It’s nearly impossible to turn a blind eye to Jessica Alba. The actress and mom-to-be is as radiant as you’d expect her to be in person, as Hollywood.com discovered when we sat down to chat about her new film The Eye–but even as she decides whether to do the baby’s room in soft pinks, blues or yellows, we also learned several of her eye-popping secrets.
Eye Pod: Pregnancy sometimes feels as much like an alien invasion as a bundle of joy.
“It’s more like something has taken over my body and you kind of just have to surrender. I might lose it at any moment. It’s crazy. It’s amazing because you can’t believe that you can have something inside of you that’s growing and it’s a life. It’s the most incredible thing in the world, but at the same time it’s very emotional and bizarre. It’s something else that’s taking over and you just have to really surrender to it and allow your body to do what it needs to do.”[PAGEBREAK]
[IMG:R]Eye-Opener: She’s discovered her own special craving.
“I like lemonade–Arnold Palmers. That’s something that I never really cared about before. I drank a lot of coffee, and so I kind of replaced that with lemonade.” [PAGEBREAK]
Red Eye: After a hectic year of flying in and out of L.A. for films, she’s can finally put away her luggage for a while.
“It’s bizarre, to try and live a semi-normal life. I have friends over for dinners once a week and we play games, board games. It’s really exciting. I’m decorating the house that I just got. It’s like nesting and being normal and not running around and living in a hotel or a different place for once …You have to reacquaint yourself with all of your friends because I haven’t been around for almost two years. I’ll come in and be like, ‘Hey, I’m here for three days. Let’s go grab lunch.’ So now I can be here and go see a movie and hang out and get my nails done and go for dog walks.” [PAGEBREAK]
Eye Am Legend: Little kids constantly see her as a superhero–AND want a demonstration of her Fantastic Four powers.
“A few of them have asked me to go invisible. I have to say, ‘I can’t do it without my suit on.’ That’s like the good answer, because there’s no way that I’m putting that suit on unless I’m on set [laughs]. But yeah, it’s very sweet especially with little boys and little girls –‘That’s Sue Storm!'” [PAGEBREAK]
[IMG:L]Eye, Ay Ay: The same attention is not so cute when it comes from 35-year old men.
“Yeah. [Laughs] They usually at first have me take pictures with their kids and then they’re like, ‘Oh, and one for me.’ They get really close. I’m like, ‘Ugh, okay.'”[PAGEBREAK]
Eye Scream, You Scream: She loves old school horror movies.
“The first Nightmare on Elm Street is definitely one of my favorites. The jokes freak me out because you see this other side to Freddy Krueger, like he’s almost human or something. I just like being scared and thinking about what I’d do in that situation. Really, the first one was my absolute favorite, that oblivious teenager in the bed getting sucked into it. I’ve had many, many dreams that that was me [laughs]. I actually didn’t sleep in the middle of my bed for a long time.”[PAGEBREAK]
[IMG:R]Eye Carumba!: She’s uniquely obsessed with serial killers.
“I watch a lot of like Dateline and real things on serial killers and horrible things that I probably shouldn’t be watching, but I watch all these things on crazy people. So in real life I like to watch that stuff so when I see the gore in the horror movies and see what that means it totally freaks me out, visually seeing it. If it’s in my head that’s enough, people who were really cannibals like Jeffrey Dahmer or something. Who’s the most intriguing one? Probably [Richard Kuklinski], the one that worked for the mob. He got caught in the ’90’s. He’s the most fascinating, because he lived in Jersey and had a family. They had no idea and he’s like a regular dad and he’s a cold-blooded. He was called the Iceman. He’s my favorite. Then the journalist [interviewing him] pisses him off and he’s like, ‘You don’t want to make me angry.’ You’re watching that and you’re like, ‘Dude, you really don’t want to make him angry. He can just crack your neck in half.'” [PAGEBREAK]
Eye Ching: A tattoo on her wrist brings her back to balance.
“It’s a lotus in Sanskrit. I like the lotus, and Sanskrit is one of the oldest written languages. It means many different things, but for me it’s the manifestation of spiritual beauty.”
