With all the Wolverine hullabaloo going on, Universal is seizing the opportunity to keep Hugh Jackman busy. What better way to do that than to cast him as the lead in Snow White and the Huntsman. That’s right, they just offered Jackman the title role: The Huntsman. I like it. (Also, just so you know, that’s the one with Kristen Stewart and Charlize Theron not the one with Armie Hammer and Julia Roberts. It’s confusing, I know.)
Anyway, with Viggo Mortensen out for the Huntsman role, it would be a huge coup for this Snow White camp to nab a name like Jackman to compete with the Roberts star power over at Tarsem Singh’s version. It’s really a toss-up as to whether or not Jackman accepts, but it’s likely The Wolverine can withstand and will withstand further delays, which would allow him to take part in the fantasy film. But is Jackman even the right man for the job, or just a pretty face and a big name? I think he’d actually be perfect for the role. The Huntsman is this sort of rugged, older man who takes pity on the young and helpless Snow White and who’s more rugged and trustworthy than Jackman? Not many folks, really. I’m jonesing for a new Wolverine movie just as much as the next movie fan, but this casting could be fantastic and with Darren Aronofsky out of the picture, we don’t really want Fox rushing production on the clawed hero’s adventure just to get it out as soon as possible anyway.
