Glee has already devoted countless McKinley High moments to musical icons —Michael Jackson, Madonna, Fleetwood Mac, and Britney Spears, to name a few — and now it’s time for the FOX hit to honor to another music legend. Hollywood.com has exclusively learned that Glee’s Ryan Murphy is currently planning a tribute to the great Stevie Wonder.
The Glee writer/producer extraordinaire spilled the news to Hollywood.com Wednesday night at at the Paley Center for Media, where he was honored with the inaugural PaleyFest Icon Award. Apparently a Wonder tribute is something he’s been hoping to create since the beginning of Glee — nearly 500 musical numbers ago. “I think we’re going to do a big Stevie Wonder tribute toward the end of this year, which I’ve wanted to do for four years,” he says. “So that’s my big thing.”

Murphy explains that his desire to honor the music icon is something near and dear to his heart. “He was my favorite when I was a kid, so yes, I think we’re going to do a Stevie Wonder tribute,” the showrunner says with a smile.
Glee fans have already been graced with one of Wonder’s songs in the past. Back in Season 2, Artie (Kevin McHale) used the classic ballad “Isn’t She Lovely” to serenade Brittany (Heather Morris) in home economics class as a way to apologize and simultaneously ask her to prom. Even though Artie’s request was denied, the acoustic guitar-accompanied song was an instant iTunes hit.

Hollywood.com has confirmed that the script for the homage has not yet been penned, so it’s unclear whether the tribute will be small-scale or receive a full episode treatment a la Madonna or MJ or Britney (or Britney … again). A full Season 4 episode shouldn’t be hard to pack full of Wonder’s hits, though — the artist has won 22 Grammys throughout his musical career.
