The man behind HBO’s hit, Entourage, is bringing a show called 40 to HBO. Doug Ellin calls his new show a version of Entourage meets hedge funds. Oh joy. It originally started out as more of a sexy, fun version but when the economy began to slip they reevaluated their approach. Edward Burns stars as one of four middle aged men who live in New York city as they navigate the 40-something blues as the result of the 2008 economic crisis as well as their own life issues like marriage, friendships and success. So basically it’s Sex and the City with men and no Manolo Blahniks or swanky fashion parties (besides their characters probably wouldn’t be able to afford them even if they wanted them). Burns plays a wealthy banker whose bank collapses, leaving him high and dry. While this plot sounds a little like Dirty Sexy Money minus the family drama and stupid, fun stuff, they did make a great casting choice with Burns. If they do this right, they could have a really great New York homage on their hands because Burns has made himself a go-to NYC indie filmmaker; he knows the city well and I doubt he’d take part in something that didn’t do it justice.
