Regis Philbin To Go From ‘Live!’ To Reality TV

Regis PhilbinRegis Philbin has affirmed repeatedly that his departure from Live! with Regis and Kelly does not at all indicate that he is retiring. As a matter of fact, Philbin states that he left the show in order to pursue other progreams. Although Philbin has been known almost universally as the Live! host for many years now, he has also enjoyed hosting gigs on shows like America’s Got Talent and Who Wants to Be a Millionaire. The 80-year-old small screen fixture is seeking another reality competition show that, as Philbin himself told Page Six, “involves the whole family.”

Philbin elaborated that the series would be a sort of variety show that will showcase the talents of entire families. Philbin commented that a family competition is “something new in [his] business,” which leads us to believe he might not be too familiar with a few staple game shows. To be fair, however, Philbin’s concept and past “family” competition shows do seem to have notable differences.

Philbin is re-teaming with former colleague Barry Glazer (director of Live! with Regis and Kathy Lee), and with producers Edward Walson and Cort Cassidy to develop this new series.
