TV Tidbits: Parker Posey is New Girl on ‘New Girl,’ Nick Jonas Tweets ‘Idol’ Hopes

Parker Posey, Nick JonasNew Girl: After winning hearts for her spectacular guest turn on Louie (not that there were any hearts left for her to win over), Parker Posey will be appearing on another of TV’s best comedies. The frequent Christopher Guest collaborator will replace Leslie Mann on Fox’s New Girl after Mann had to drop out due to scheduling conflicts. Posey will play a “shot girl” who appears at Schmidt’s penis cast removal party… a plot point which is a surprisingly unsurprising representation of Schmidt (Max Greenfield). [TVLine]

American Idol: He may be a little (nay, a lot) younger than outgoing American Idol judges Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez, but the youngest Jonas — Nick Jonas — is prepping his fans for a potential judging gig on Fox’s hit singing competition. Confirming longstanding rumors that he was in the running for one of the two (or is it three?) replacement judge slots, Jonas tweeted on Saturday: “The rumors are true… I am being considered to be a judge on American Idol, and it would be a dream come true if it happens. #nickonidol.”

Romeo and Juliet revisited: ABC has committed to purchasing the network’s first major development project, a Romeo and Juliet-themed drama from The OC creator McG. The drama will revolve around two feuding families in Venice, California — one of L.A.’s hottest neighborhoods — and echo the Bard’s tragedy as both families battle for control over the city. The project would be McG’s first foray into ABC, after developing series for The CW, NBC and Fox. [Deadline]

FX: The cable network has purchased a one-hour drama — to be produced by music mogul Dr. Dre — that “explores present day Los Angeles through the lenses of the music business and the crime business.” [Deadline]
