Making a Splash: “Details” Magazine Party

It’s all in the details.

When beachwear maker Nautica teamed up with Details magazine to throw a hot bash to lure Hollywood’s hippest, they found the right venue at the historic Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel’s recently redesigned pool & bungalow area–an oasis of chic yet still retro-chillin’ that made a big splash with the young Tinseltown crowd, literally.

The place was so packed with industry types–including Eva Longoria, Jessica Alba, Kaley Cuoco, Jason Ritter, Jesse Metcalfe, Garcelle Beauvais, Ashely Scott, Jeremy Piven, Chris Kattan, Erika Christensen and Sophia Bush–that one female party guest was accidentally elbowed right into the pool!

Eva sneaked in a side entrance, but her sometimes-boyfriend JC Chasez walked the carpet. Inside he was never more than a few inches away from her, his hand was always on her arm, caressing her shoulder or curled around her waist. They spent a lot of the night canoodling, and she looked amazing, in a white dress with a lace-up corseted back and thin shoulder straps, with a bright pink bra peeking out. Not that you could always get a great look at the dress, since she was also wearing JC most of the night.

Speaking of all over each other, Jessica Alba and her boyfriend Cash Warren are definitely on the list of Hollywood couples who aren’t unafraid of a little PDA. They were two peas in a pod most of the night–that is, when they weren’t chatting up her Fantastic Four co-star Chris Evans on the patio of one of the poolside bungalows. Jessica‘s recently chopped off her long blonde hair, revealing a tiny tattoo of a flowering rose branch at the base of her neck–at least, that’s what it looked as I spied them, waiting for a drink at the bar.

A woman in the fashion industry gave Jessica her card and suggested she call her if she was ever interested in doing a fashion line, and the actress jumped at the idea. She’s been actively planning to launch a line of baby clothes for boys and girls and is apparently pretty serious about it. She explained that she’s already done some of the initial design work and planning and is now looking for a manufacturer and distributor. Jessica got quite excited about making the contact and said she would call the fashionista for sure: “And I’m sober, so I really mean it,” Jessica assured her.

But the biggest buzz of the night was generated–big surprise!–by Paris Hilton, who arrived semi-incognito wearing a long brown wig that at first made her hard to recognize–except that she was walking hand-in-hand through the pool area in a party-girl chain consisting of her pal Kimberly Stewart, runway model Caroline D’Amore and another tall willowy blonde. I yelled out to my friends and they insisted I was wrong, that it wasn’t Paris, which made me able to gloat all the more as Paris passed by and purred hello.

“Is that a new look for you?” I asked.

“It’s for my new movie,” she explained. “I’m this Italian brunette, and my father’s the head of this movie studio and all this stuff happens, where I leave my boyfriend, who’s this movie star, for this bartender from Ohio, who is Jason Mewes. And then you find out that I run this homeless shelter and I’m, like, normal. It’s hard to explain…”

With her new role as movie star, I asked if she was still able to keep up her hectic party-hopping schedule. “No, I’m too busy and tired,” she confessed. “I’m over it. It’s lame. When I go out now, I’m just, like, annoyed by everything.”

Hmm. Come to think of it, that girl who fell into the pool was in Paris’s path on the party posse’s way out.
