Joan Cusack is back in the spotlight, but the acclaimed actress says her years away from Hollywood were well worth it.
While attending the Los Angeles premiere of Toy Story 5, Cusack reflected on her decision to step away from acting and public appearances for several years. The Oscar-nominated actress, known for roles in films like Working Girl, School of Rock, and the Toy Story franchise, explained that taking time to focus on family and everyday life gave her something Hollywood could not.

Speaking about her break from the entertainment industry, Cusack said she felt fortunate to have enjoyed a long and successful career. At the same time, she appreciated the opportunity to live outside the spotlight, raising her children and enjoying a more normal lifestyle in Chicago.
The actress shares two sons, Dylan and Miles, with her husband, Richard Burke. During her time away from Hollywood, Cusack largely stayed out of the public eye, making her recent appearances for Toy Story 5 especially notable. Earlier this year, she attended the film’s London premiere, marking her first red-carpet event in more than a decade.
Cusack’s return comes as Toy Story 5 prepares to bring audiences back into Pixar’s beloved world of talking toys. This time, the story focuses on the growing influence of technology in children’s lives. According to Pixar’s synopsis, Woody, Buzz, Jessie, and the rest of the gang must confront a new challenge when electronic devices begin competing with traditional toys for attention.

Jessie, voiced once again by Cusack, plays a central role in the story. The trailer highlights her concerns that Bonnie is becoming increasingly attached to a smart tablet, creating a new obstacle for the toy friends.
In Toy Story 5, Joan Cusack makes a welcome return to the franchise while reflecting on the value of balancing career success with family life.
