Rachel McAdams to Host Academy’s Scientific-Technical Awards

Actress Rachel McAdams has been announced as the presenter of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ Scientific and Technical Awards.

The awards will take place on Saturday, Feb. 18 at The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, and the highlights from the presentation will be broadcast during the 78th Academy Awards.

Each year, the Scientific and Technical Awards are handed out prior to the Oscars, and honor devices, methods, formulas, discoveries or inventions of special and outstanding value to the arts of sciences of motion pictures.

Among the 19 such awards to be handed out this year is the Academy’s highly regarded Gordon E. Sawyer Award. This year’s honoree, for his lifetime of technological contributions to the industry, is Gary Demos; he will receive an Oscar statuette.

McAdams’ most recent film was The Family Stone, and she has recently appeared in several hit movies, including the smash comedy Wedding Crashers, Wes Craven’s Red Eye, The Notebook and Mean Girls.

The Academy Awards for outstanding film achievements from 2005 will be presented on March 5, 2006, at the Kodak Theatre at Hollywood & Highland. ABC will televise the event beginning at 5 p.m. PST, with a red-carpet special preceding it at 4 p.m. PST.
