Ranking high among the language enthusiasts of popular culture is, of course, Adam Sandler. Through his varied film career, the man has exhibited proficiency in countless different languages: Hebrew, gibberish, and now Russian. Sandler’s upcoming animated flick Hotel Transylvania has released it’s first trailer, an international Russian spot, answering (or raising further) questions about how well Sandler’s comedy translates overseas.
In the trailer, hotel proprietor Count Dracula (Sandler) welcomes a rare human visitor (Andy Samberg) to his spooky establishment. At least, that’s what looks to be going on. The language barrier might keep you in the dark on a few of the more specific details. In any event, even when handled by a Russian voice actor, the character of Dracula has an inherent Sandlerity to him. What’s the Russian word for “bore-ophyll”?
Another Sandler/Samberg collaboration, That’s My Boy, has also released its first trailer. You can watch that here (but not in Russian).
Update: the video has disappeared for the time being, so for now, you’ll have to stick with the un-animated sketches of Sandler’s vampire character (significantly less Russian).
