A24 has officially unveiled the first trailer for Tony, an upcoming drama inspired by the early life of legendary chef and writer Anthony Bourdain. Instead of attempting to cover Bourdain’s entire career, the film narrows its focus to one pivotal summer that helped shape the future culinary icon.

Set in Provincetown, Massachusetts, the movie follows a 19-year-old Bourdain after he is rejected from a writing fellowship. Looking for direction, he takes a summer job working in a seafood restaurant kitchen — an experience that ultimately sparks his passion for food culture and restaurant life.
A24’s Tony Trailer
The newly released trailer highlights the gritty, chaotic energy of kitchen work that fans of Bourdain’s memoir Kitchen Confidential will immediately recognize. Scenes of oyster shucking, lobster prep, late-night partying, and exhausted cooks jumping into the ocean capture both the intensity and camaraderie of restaurant culture.
Rather than presenting a traditional rise-to-fame biopic, Tony appears to lean into a more intimate and emotional coming-of-age story. The film explores how the young Bourdain became fascinated with the unpredictable world of professional kitchens and the personalities that inhabited them.
Cast and Plot
Dominic Sessa stars as the young Bourdain following his breakout performance in The Holdovers. Antonio Banderas plays Ciro, the restaurant owner and mentor who introduces Bourdain to the demanding kitchen lifestyle.
The cast also includes Emilia Jones, Leo Woodall, Dagmara Domińczyk, Rich Sommer, and comedian Stavros Halkias.
Tony Release Date
Tony is scheduled to hit theaters in August 2026. With its nostalgic setting, strong ensemble cast, and focus on Bourdain’s formative years, the film is already shaping up to be one of A24’s most anticipated releases of the year.
