Every week, we list the week’s coolest celebs, movies and goings-on in the world of entertainment.
1. Media queen Oprah Winfrey, for landing a major coup for the beginning of her 20th Oprah talk show season: Jennifer Aniston will give her first full TV interview following her split from Brad Pitt when the show airs Sept. 19.
2. Heather Mills McCartney, for instigating what could become a fur-flying catfight. Former Beatle Paul McCartney’s wife said she plans to stalk Jennifer Lopez until the superstar stops wearing fur. The warning comes after amputee Mills McCartney lost her prosthetic leg during a violent confrontation with security guards at Lopez’s New York office Tuesday, as she attempted to deliver a PETA DVD to Jenny from the Block. The incident happened after the 37-year-old activist pleaded with fans at a demonstration to boycott Lopez’s music, movies and clothes because she uses fur in her fashion line Sweetface. “The next stage is I’ll find out where she lives and show up there,” said Mills McCartney. “And I’ll get a hold of her at her premieres.”
3. London-based World Entertainment News Network wire service, for the week in entertainment news’ most creative headline: “Schwarzenegger Playboy Video Hidden By Pecker.” No, not that pecker. The headline was a reference to American Media Inc. boss David Pecker, who allegedly paid the owner of a 1983 Playboy video hosted by Arnold Schwarzenegger $2,000 to hand over his copy of the tape. The deal happened a few weeks before Peck signed a multi-million dollar contract with the Terminator to become executive editor of his Flex and Muscle & Fitness magazines.
4. Funnyman David Spade, for being such a wise-ass. On Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes‘ upcoming wedding: “I’m looking forward to the wedding. I saw the script and it looks like it’s gonna be great.”
5. Internet auction site eBay, for allowing a seller to post a piece of cake reportedly half-eaten by Hollywood heartthrob Matt Damon. The celebrity lot comes complete with the fork used by the 34-year-old during filming for upcoming movie The Good Shepherd, Damon‘s new movie co-starring Angelina Jolie. An opening bid for Damon’s half eaten crème puff and fork has been placed at $200.
6. The Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards, for honoring TV’s hard-working behind-the-scenes crew in otherwise unnoticed categories such as cinematography, art direction, costumes, make-up and hairstyling. The western drama Deadwood was the big winner Sunday night, beating hit show Lost and Desperate Housewives to claim five honors. Controversial cartoon South Park, meanwhile, picked up its first Emmy for Best Animated Program.
7. Lord of the Rings Elijah Wood, for having a sense of humor with clever cyber pranksters who incessantly try to prove the actor is gay. Unlike many stars, Wood isn’t planning any legal action to stop the pranksters but marvels at their creativity. “There’s one that’s called elijahwoodisveryverygay (sic), which is actually a personal favorite of mine, it’s absolutely hilarious,” Wood said. “It’s this kind of joke Web site that maintains they have proof that I am very very gay in various photographs–photographic evidence (of me) holding hands with a male. These people have a lot of time on their hands and my hat’s off (to them) because it’s very good work.”
8. Veteran star James Caan, for blasting celebs who complain about paparazzi intrusion. “When you start in this business, you pray for the day that people recognize you, that’s your goal,” The Godfather star said. “And now these schmucks get there and then they go, ‘Leave me alone.’ What are you talking about? If I was a doctor… I’d have to expect phone calls at three in the morning – that’s part of their job.”
9. Politician and civil rights campaigner Reverend Al Sharpton, for slamming NBC’s editing of Kanye West’s outburst against US President George W. Bush from the Hurricane Katrina telethon earlier this month. Sharpton insists West should have been allowed to speak freely on behalf of the survivors, and is convinced had the rapper insulted anyone other than the President, his comments would have been left uncensored. During the telethon, West uttered the now famous line, “George Bush doesn’t care about black people.”
10. New Orleans, Louisiana, native Master P and his son Lil’ Romeo, for their big ambitions in setting up the Web site TeamRescueone.com, aimed at helping rehouse families and council children and suicidal fathers. Master P, whose real name is Percy Miller, reveals he felt compelled to do everything he could after seeing desperate fathers committing suicide by diving off the Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans while it was being used as a shelter for the hurricane victims. Master P‘s goal is to rehouse 100 families a month and pay their rent for the first three months. Between them, the father and son team have donated $5 million to the cause.
