“I’ve been going for the last three weeks, just going to different cities all around the world, just to get to these planned mobbings, where everybody just screams and screams and screams. But every single time I get so nervous, and kind of cold sweats … I started crying in Italy. Like,completely involuntarily.”

Crying aside, ladies, he’s single.
“I’m not dating anyone. I theoretically don’t avoid it, but it’s weird, just knowing that people will talk about stuff. And also, if you try and chat people up, everyone’s like, ‘You’re just an actor. You probably go around sleeping with everybody.’ So it kind of has the converse effect of what you would have thought.”

The trademark (ugh!) hair — to cut or not to cut.
“As soon as someone said [something about the hair], it was like a trademark, it’s like: ‘Cut it off, shave your head, don’t have any trademarks.’ I’m always really afraid of cutting my hair because I always get really bad haircuts. But I hate having long hair, because you get out of the shower and have to wait for two hours for it to dry, especially when it is so greasy all the time.”

I had this stuff…this stuff that my dad had, which I just found out the other day is for afro hair. Which I had no idea. Black & White, but I never use it [anymore] because my hair is so dirty.”

“When I was first given the book, I was like, ‘This is a girl’s book.’ I didn’t really see the appeal. But when I was reading it knowing I might get the part, I read all three of them. When you get rid of your initial judgments and embarrassment over reading it and say, ‘I’m just reading for work, alright!’ I did really enjoy it … I just didn’t [read them in public].”

“I completely expected it. That’s the reason I didn’t want to go in for the part initially, because it’s really putting yourself out there. You say, ‘Oh, yeah. I think I can play this part, the perfect guy. The best-looking guy in the whole world.’ I just thought even having the gall to go in means you’re a bit of an arrogant prick. I was quite happy when they all said, ‘He’s not good-looking enough.’ I’m like, ‘Thank you.’”

“When I was 17, I always just looked at people who would be like, ‘Oh, I’m in love,’ and then they break up three weeks later, and just think, ‘Ah. You know, that’s what love is when you’re 17. Anyone who said they were in love, I just thought, ‘They’re idiots.”

“I didn’t talk to any of the cast about anything other than the film for at least a month and a half of the shoot. And it creates a strange aura around you, and people don’t really know what to make of you. I just wanted the rest of the cast to think about me as a character being this intense person.”

“I used to make these rap records, and the only reason I went to school was to play them with my friends … I wanted to be a rapper – yeah, I was really into it. I don’t know why that ended. I think because my friends started doing singer/songwriter stuff, so I tried songwriting and my friend taught me how to play guitar and stuff.”

“My friend Marcus Foster wrote the lyrics to the one song at the end (iTunes bonus track “Let Me Sign”) like two years ago. I remember once he was waiting to meet up with me and he wrote it on a napkin in about five minutes. The other song (“Never Think”) I was writing last year, based on when I had my apartment in London. It was a series of drunken mumbles at about 4 in the morning. I wrote lyrics out of the mumbles, and that ended up being in this big movie.”

“Seeing how the Harry Potter people have dealt with it … they’re still very, very normal and sane. I think it’s because they just ignored the surrealness of their lives from an outside perspective and just dealt with everything as complete reality, just live their lives normally. They didn’t treat anyone any differently and didn’t treat themselves differently. And they’ve ended up being completely fine.”
