Rose Byrne is set to reunite with acclaimed filmmaker Mary Bronstein for the upcoming psychological drama Nasty, with Jenna Ortega also joining the cast. The project, written by Isabella Jarosz, first gained attention after earning a spot on the 2024 Black List, which recognizes some of Hollywood’s most promising unproduced screenplays.
The film centers on a gifted young gymnast determined to secure a place on the U.S. Olympic team. As the pressure of elite competition intensifies, she finds herself confronting her greatest obstacle—not another athlete, but her own coach. The story promises to explore the demanding world of competitive gymnastics through a tense and emotionally driven narrative.
Production on Nasty is expected to begin this fall. The film will be produced by LuckyChap, the production company behind Barbie, alongside Jenna Ortega, who also serves as a producer on the project.
Nasty also marks one of the latest productions from Clockwork, Warner Bros.’ recently launched specialty label led by former Neon executives Christian Parkes, Jason Wald, and Spencer Collantes. The new banner is quickly building an impressive slate of prestige projects.
For Rose Byrne, the film continues her collaboration with Bronstein following their critically acclaimed work on If I Had Legs I’d Kick You, a performance that earned Byrne widespread praise. Meanwhile, Ortega continues to expand her diverse film career with several high-profile projects, including the upcoming sci-fi drama Klara and the Sun.
