77th Annual Academy Awards: It’s Good To Be a Nominee

If, to paraphrase Mel Brooks, it’s good to be a movie star, then it’s positively great to be an Oscar nominee. Sure, there’s the prestige factor and the mark in the history books and even the boost in a star’s asking price, but seriously, the major action comes with all the free swag that arrive at a nominee’s doorstep.

Let’s forget for a moment about that official Oscar gift basket that the nominees and presenters collect on Academy Awards night (we’ll have word on that soon, but we hear the sky-high value of this year’s basket beats out last year’s by more than $100,000). Well before this year’s ceremony gets underway, luxe businesses are lining up to bestow the nominees with specially selected, ultra-glam goodies worthy of Hollywood’s most honored performers. Hollywood.com, which already previewed the $15,000 Oscar Survival kit packed with delicate gifts from Victoria’s Secret for the Best Actress nominees, has a peek at just some of the freebies the nominees have already hauled in:

Jordache

  • Jordache Jeans has offered each Best Actress nominee a custom designed, handmade pair of limited edition Jordache Oscar Jeans, valued at $1,500. Jordache’s expert denim specialist has been put on call to custom fit the jeans for the nominees, who can pick a style, fabric, cut and choose a limited edition pocket design that will be chosen from the jeanmaker’s vintage collections vault. The denim will be handcrafted with denim imported from Italian, Japanese and American mills and undergo a time intensive process of laundering and hand-applied treatments–including hand-tacking, potassium spraying, nicking, abrading, spot-tinting, staining, hand-sanding–that require up to four people and eight hours to complete.
  • Swedish high end spa skin care line Kerstin Florian has delivered its “Visions of Oscar” gift basket worth $5,000 to the Best Actress nominees, filled with red carpet-ready necessities, including magnificent nutrient-rich $700 caviar skin care products, a lavish cashmere Kashwere robe and slippers, high-end Sama eyewear, a three-night stay with a day at the spa at one of the elegant Fairmont Willow Stream Resorts and a beautiful silver champagne bucket engraved with the Krug emblem containing Krug Grande Cuvée champagne (which blends 50 different wines from six to ten different years) for a toast to congratulate their Oscar nominations.

Fleur de Champagne Blanc de Blancs

  • Winemaker Perrier Jouët offered each of the Best Actor and Best Actress nominees the exceptional 1999 Fleur de Champagne Blanc de Blancs. The $220 bubbly comes in the famed “Flower Bottle,” created in 1902 by master glassmaker and Art Nouveau founder Émile Gallé created to honor the Belle Époque era.
  • Do-it-yourself-diva Barbara K created a limited edition Oscar Toolkit hand-studded with Swarovski crystals and valued at $2,500 for each of the Best Actress nominees, including a fiberglass claw hammer, measuring tape, slip joint pliers, a 16-piece hex key, a two-in-one level, putty knife, six-in-one interchangeable screwdriver, a fastener assortment and an adjustable wrench–perfect for any last-minute hardware disasters that happen in the limo ride over to the Kodak Theater.

Truefitt & Hill Sterling Silver Shave Sets

  • And if the actresses seem to be getting most of the action, the 200-year-old distinguished men’s groomer Truefitt & Hill–tending to the needs of classic personalities from Winston Churchill, Fred Astaire, John Wayne to modern day stars Josh Duhamel, Matthew Broderick and athlete Tracey McGrady–has gifted the Best Actor nominees with engraved handcrafted sterling silver shave sets valued at $2,600 so they can “Shave in Style” on Oscars night.
