Samara Weaving is officially heading into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with the actress reportedly set to play Emma Frost in Marvel Studios’ upcoming X-Men reboot.
Best known for roles in films including Ready or Not, The Babysitter, Scream VI and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, Weaving will take on one of Marvel’s most complex mutant characters. Emma Frost has traditionally been introduced as a powerful telepath and formidable antagonist before eventually becoming a hero and an important member of the X-Men.
Marvel and Weaving’s representatives have not publicly confirmed the casting. However, the news arrives as the studio continues assembling its next generation of mutant characters.
The upcoming X-Men film will be directed by Jake Schreier, who recently helmed Marvel’s Thunderbolts. The project is expected to play a major role in bringing the X-Men fully into the MCU following Disney’s acquisition of 21st Century Fox in 2019.
Before Marvel’s new mutant team takes center stage, several familiar X-Men characters are expected to appear in Avengers: Doomsday. The film will feature returning stars from the previous Fox franchise, including Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen and James Marsden, creating a major connection between the earlier X-Men movies and Marvel’s current cinematic universe.
For Samara Weaving, the role marks another major step in a career that has increasingly showcased her range across horror, comedy and action. She most recently appeared in Ready or Not 2: Here I Come and Over Your Dead Body.
If confirmed, her casting as Emma Frost could make her one of the MCU’s most intriguing new additions.
