“Chicken Run” Premiere

UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif., June 17, 2000 — What do you get when you’ve got a coop of chickens who want out?

Utter mayhem.

Throw in some clay and Mel Gibson and you’ve got “Chicken Run,” the clay animation feature from DreamWorks, which had its premiere Saturday morning at Universal Citywalk.

While live chickens frolicked the pavement, Gibson, who provides one of the lead voices, was joined by directors Peter Lord and Nick Park, executive producer Jeffrey Katzenberg and a host of other celebrities including Breckin Meyer, Janine Turner, Tim Roth, Sherilyn Fenn and Dennis Haysbert.

“Chicken Run” centers around a group of clucks who embark on a daring plan to break out of their farm before the evil Mrs. Tweedy (voiced by Miranda Richardson) turns them into chicken pie.

“Chicken Run” opens June 21.
