‘Lost’ Season Two Recap: Ep. 17

“Lockdown”

See? I told you Henry wasn’t on the up and up. Balloon accident, my left fanny. But more on that in a minute.

First, let’s address poor, hatch-obsessed Locke. He and Jack are still tussling for control over that damned underground hell hole, which seems to be taking on a life of its own. As Jack goes off to play a few poker hands with Sawyer to win back the medical supplies, Locke suddenly finds himself trapped with Henry when the blast doors come down for no apparent reason. While attempting to escape, Locke’s legs are crushed underneath the doors and he must put his trust in Henry to climb through the air vent, get on the other side of the doors and punch in the numbers to set the clock back.

This raises some issues for Locke. He is still haunted by his so-called father using him. to get a kidney and then leaving him high and dry. He doesn’t want to be abandoned again.

In a flashback, we see Locke attempting to move on, about to propose to Helen. Then he discovers his father, Cooper, has faked his own death in order to hide from a couple of men he stole $700,000 from in a retirement con–and he needs Locke’s help again. He offers Locke a cut of the money if he will just go to the bank and withdraw it from a safety deposit box for him. Though Locke refuses to be conned again, he is still swayed by a desire to win his father’s love, so he goes through with it–and in the process loses Helen once and for all

Back in the hatch, it gets a little tense as the alarm gets more and more amplified but suddenly it stops–and the lights go out. Ten seconds later a black light comes on to reveal some sort of blueprint or map on the back of the blast door Locke is trapped underneath. It looks like a map of the island with all the different Dhamra “stations” to me, but I’m not sure. Lights come back on, doors go up and Henry is there. He didn’t leave (but maybe he should have).

Meanwhile, Jack and Kate discover a pallet of food, which seems to have been dropped on the island by parachute (could that explain the blast door incident?), and Ana Lucia, Sayid and Charlie come out of the jungle. They found Henry’s balloon and his wife’s grave, but there’s more…

Sayid, Jack and the others go into the hatch to confront Henry. Apparently, Sayid didn’t trust what they found and dug up the grave to discover it didn’t contain the body of a woman, but that of a man. A black man whose identification says is Henry Gale, from Minnesota.

What do you got to say for yourself now, you bug-eyed Other?
