Jared Leto Officially Cast in ‘Tron: Ares’

The History of the ‘Tron’ franchise

The roots of the Tron franchise go back to 1982.  The original film centers on a game developer who is sucked into his computer into “The Grid”, a virtual reality he must fight for his life to escape.

The Sequel came decades later with Tron: Legacy as the son of the protagonist in the original film follows in his father’s footsteps and is also sucked into the Grid. The film series has spawned various video games, books, and even theme park rides.

Jared Leto has starred in various Sci Fi films such as starring in Blade Runner 2024, Morbius, and Zack Snyder’s Justice League to name a few. The reception is mixed about Leto’s casting. It’s no wonder he was

 The rest of the cast is currently unconfirmed with speculation on whether or not Jeff Bridges will return. Other new additions to the franchise from Tron: Legacy are speculated to return the series. Fans are looking to see the return of Garrett Hedlund as Sam and Olivia Wilde as Quorra.

Audiences have loved the Tron franchise because of its incredible special effects and groundbreaking technology. The upcoming Tron: Ares will be no exception, as it is set to be a visually stunning film. With the latest advancements in technology and special effects, fans can expect to see a whole new level of immersion in the world of Tron.

Jared Leto is no stranger to the Tron franchise, especially considering he’s a producer for the film. Tron: Ares has had a bumpy ride on the road to production.  Garth Davis was set to direct originally, however, this version of the project did not pan out.

Despite this, the film is currently moving forward with Joachim Rønning as the director. Rønning comes with multiple Disney films under his belt. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales and Maleficent: Mistress of Evil. He’s also set to helm the upcoming film starring Daisy RidleyYoung Woman and the Sea.

The film is being written by Jesse Wigutow, who has written for a number of successful films and TV shows, including It Runs in the Family, and The Crow.

Production for Tron: Ares is set to start August 2023.
