Capturing the ring–the real one–will cost more than $46,000

The original 14-carat gold ring that was used as the basis for all of
the ring props in Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring
has been put up for auction on the German eBay site
and has already fetched a bid of $46,000.

According to the British
website Ananova, the ring’s creator, Oliver Noell, gave it to a German
radio station, HR3, to auction. Proceeds will go to a local organization
that aids children with cancer.

The auction runs until Friday.
