SAG contract and negotiations extended

Negotiations between the actors unions (SAG/AFTRA) and the studios (AMPTP) were suspended just mere hours before the actors’ current contract expired last night at 12:01 a.m.

“Negotiations between AMPTP and SAG/AFTRA have adjourned for the evening. After a week of intense negotiations, the parties agreed that the remaining issues would be better addressed beginning in the morning,” AMPTP spokesperson Barry Liden told Hollywood.com.

An extension to the negotiations–and for the actors’ contract–beyond the deadline was not unexpected, nor should it be taken as a bad omen.

“It’s not a signal of any kind of impasse or breakdown whatsoever. Basically, reasonable people are in the room and decided that going into the wee hours of the morning may not be as productive or desirable as coming back,” AFTRA spokesperson Pamm Fair explained.

There is no word on where the negotiations stand.
