Neil Patrick Harris is set to host the 66th Annual Tony Awards and it’s going to be….his third time as emcee for the ceremony. (You thought I was going to say legendary, didn’t you?)
It was announced that the How I Met Your Mother star, who previously hosted in 2009 and 2011, will return to New York City’s Beacon Theater on Sunday, June 10 for the 2012 Tonys. Harris, a theater vet himself, tweeted the “cool news” to his fans last night.
“I’m thrilled to be a part of this year’s Tony Awards. Not only will I be shining a spotlight on the best that Broadway has to offer, but hopefully I’ll score some free house seats to a show or 5,” the actor, who has also hosted the Emmys/everything, said in a statement.
Harris’ hosting effort for the 2011 ceremony (which was dominated by the smash musical The Book of Mormon), drew in 6.9 million viewers, down slightly (7.0 million) from when Sean Hayes hosted in 2010.
The 66th Annual Tony Awards will air live on CBS on June 10 at 8 PM ET.
